Mulberries are small, elongated fruits that grow on deciduous trees, often resembling blackberries in structure but with a more cylindrical shape. They develop from multiple tiny drupes clustered around a central stem and are extremely delicate and juicy. Their color varies by species and ripeness, ranging from white, pink, and red to deep purple or black. White mulberries (Morus alba) retain their pale color even when ripe, while red (Morus rubra) and black mulberries (Morus nigra) darken as they mature, thanks to natural pigments like anthocyanins.

Mulberries are loved for their sweet-tart flavor, with white varieties being the mildest and sweetest, and red or black types offering a bolder, berry-like taste. Nutritionally, they are rich in vitamin C, iron, vitamin K1, and antioxidants like resveratrol and anthocyanins, making them both tasty and healthful. Although fragile and highly perishable, they are used in a wide range of culinary applications—eaten fresh, dried like raisins, or made into jams, wines, pies, and syrups.
