The G9 banana is a popular Cavendish cultivar, widely grown in India using tissue culture techniques. It is favored for its uniform growth, high yield, and resistance to certain diseases like Panama wilt. The plant grows to a manageable height of about 6.5 to 7.5 feet, making it easier for farmers to care for and harvest. G9 plants mature in about 11â12 months, producing large bunches with 10â12 hands and a total of 175â225 bananas per plant.
The fruits are long, cylindrical, and turn bright yellow when ripe. They are known for their firm texture and very sweet taste, making them ideal for both fresh consumption and processing. Each bunch can weigh between 25â35 kg, and the bananas have excellent keeping quality, allowing for easy storage and transportation over long distances. Thanks to these qualities, G9 bananas are in high demand in both local and international markets.
